Routelocke Variant

The Routelocke is a variant of the Nuzlocke challenge. It follows standard Nuzlocke rules, with one major addition, which is that only Pokémon which can be found on a certain route are eligible as encounters. The regular Nuzlocke rule of only being allowed to catch the first encounter per area is suspended for this variant, and the player is allowed to catch one of each species of Pokémon on the chosen route.

For example, if a player was attempting a Routelocke of Pokémon Emerald, and they selected Route 102 as the chosen area, their eligible encounters would include all Pokémon which could be caught while on Route 102, including fishing or surfing (provided Surfing on the water does not cause the player to enter a different route). In this case, the eligible encounters would be as follows:

Eligible encounters for a Route 102 Routelocke of Pokémon Emerald.

Note that Wurmple is included twice here, provided one evolves into Silcoon and the other into Cascoon. First-stage Pokémon with multiple final evolutions may be caught multiple times in order to obtain ONE of each final stage Pokémon.

Players may also decide to combine this ruleset with another Nuzlocke variant, such as the Hardcore Nuzlocke, for increased challenge.

This ruleset was first formalized by reddit user u/DunyGont on the r/nuzlocke subreddit.
