Trashlocke Variant

The Trashlocke is a variant of the Pokémon Nuzlocke challenge. It follows standard Nuzlocke rules, except that Pokémon above a certain threshold of quality or usefulness are banned.

The term originally referred specifically to the “Trashlocke” ROM Hack created by the streamer Pokémon Challenges, in which strong Pokémon were removed from the encounter pool, but it is now often used to describe any self-imposed challenge which follows this principle. Here’s the original video introducing the Trashlocke, with a download link in the description:

If not playing the specific “Trashlocke” ROM Hack, players must decide in advance upon a list of Pokémon to ban.

The Trashlocke is good for experienced Nuzlockers who are looking for an increased challenge or for a ruleset which will force them to use different, less commonly seen Pokémon.
